Weekend Recap - Cincinnati/Dayton Area

A rundown of results from meets September 24-26 near Cincinnati and Dayton

As the season progresses, many runners across Ohio like to keep tabs on their competition. But between tracking down who ran when, what meets they were at, and actually finding the results, staying updated can become a pain. To make it a bit easier, summaries from the meets in the Cincinnati and Dayton area this past weekend, along with notable absences, are listed below.

Stoneberger Invitational:

At the first high school race of the weekend, the Mason and Sycamore girls were in a battle for the team win. Mason ultimately prevailed with four runners in the top ten and a score of 33. They were led by Atalia Hawkins, who won the race with a time of 19:12. Sycamore also had four runners in the top ten, and scored only 5 points off of Mason, finishing in a close second place. Both Oak Hills and Loveland did not run their varsity girls. The top runners from both races were dominated by underclassmen, most notably freshman Max Frasure. He won the boys race with a time of 16:17, leading the Sycamore boys to a second place finish. Mason boys earned their school's second win of the night, led by freshman Benjamin Goebel, who took fourth place. Loveland boys ran, but their varsity roster did not participate.

Georgetown Invitational:

Boys varsity kicked off the Georgetown Invitational on Friday. Landon Hall from Western Brown started out strong, winning with a time of 16:43 and a massive lead over the second place finisher. Western Brown won as a team, with all of their scoring runners in the top ten. Western Brown also took the win for the girls, led by Rian Helton who was the overall runner-up. Campbell Coyne from Seven Hills won with a time of 19:54, and over a minute lead on second place.

Neal Charske Fairmont Firebird Invitational:

This invitational was blazing fast, with multiple runners breaking huge barriers for both boys and girls. Ryne Reynolds of Little Miami won with a season best of 14:57, breaking 15 minutes for the second time this season. Not far behind was his teammate Ian Patrick, with a time of 15:02. All of the top 6 boys broke the 16 minute barrier, strikingly fast for this early in the season. Michael Strawser led Lebanon to their team win, although they were in a tight battle with Thomas Worthington, who finished with only five additional points. The girls race matched the energy of the boys, with an astonishing ten runners finishing under the 19 minute mark. This race was competitive, with Makkena Long of Northmont ultimately winning in 18:35, but Lucia Schafer of Fairmont finishing only 2 seconds behind. Centerville took the team win, with all of their scoring runners under the 20 minute barrier.

Princeton XC Invitational:

Freshman Callie Ochsner of Bishop Brossart won the Princeton XC Invitational with a time of 19:39. Three of the next four runners were also freshmen, with the exception of Isla Meyn from Highlands. Needless to say, this race was dominated by underclassmen. Freshman Chloe Butler was the first Ohio runner to finish, with a time of 20:04, leading Harrison to a team win. One notable absence of this meet was that of Milford, who is currently ranked first in the OATCCC poll, and did not run their varsity lineup. Aaron Geswein of Valley View won the boys race by over 25 seconds, with a time of 16:32. Headed by Charlie Schmidt, Highlands won with a team score of 72, and three runners in the top ten.
